This is my weekend to winterize my bird houses. While performing this seasonal maintenance I realized that two of my boxes have not been used for two nesting seasons.
I can talk and write all about proper next box location but I am not the chickadee, titmouse, bluebird or other cavity nesting bird making the final decision. While I may not understand why the nest box location I choose is not perfect, I can take the hint. So if a bird house goes two seasons without being used, it is time to move it to a new, "perfect" location. I always put out more houses than will be used, but that gives the birds more choices and results in more of them nesting in my yard.
