Killer Seed, Plan B

Raccoon damage...

If you've ever watched the Myth Busters show on television, you know their experiments don’t always go according to plan. However, I am fairly certain they have not had an experiment destroyed by raccoons. I have other plants on my porch that have never been bothered by these critters, but those plants do not have sunflower shells in the soil. I suspect that the scent was just too much, and they had to investigate. The experiment to test the effects of sunflower shells on plant growth has suffered a minor setback.

The good news is that I can now prove that hungry animals prefer planters with sunflower seed shells over planters with just potting soil. There is no bad news here, simply a need to create a plan “B”. 

Hopefully the cage around the test plants will prevent further damage and the test can proceed as planned. While there was some root system damage to the plants that were dug up, I will just keep that in mind as I monitor the future growth progress. Besides, if there is any truth to the myth those plants were destined to die anyway...
